Smoke Ring BBQ – Food Trucks in Detroit

Smoke Ring BBQ – Food Trucks in Detroit

There is a limited selection of good BBQ this far north. To find excellent BBQ in a food truck is sublime, and so is their meat! Don’t let this picture fool you. Word has gotten around about this truck, and they are regularly sold out of their ribs and brisket if you get there too late. They maintain a simple menu. Do a specific thing and do it well is always a good motto. For a current selection and pricing, make sure to visit their website. The ribs are a dry rub. You get to wet it up yourself with…

Last day in the Kingdom – with a dash of Epcot

May 26, 2016
WDW2014-1644

Friday morning and we have to pack up. :(  It will be our last day visiting the magical lands. I start it off with some Lucky Charms in the hopes it will enchant me and make the day seem as long as possible. We wave to the animals as we roll our things out to the car. These grasses are so soft and pretty! I’m sure they’d hate the weather back home, but I’d love to have them in my yard. Chris stops to grab himself some ‘breakfast’. Nuggets and crack sauce. Then we roll out to the Magic Kingdom.…

Conventions of Needles and Ink

March 14, 2016
castle_tattoo

If you’ve been around here a while, you know I attend a good many conventions over the year. Anime, Sci-Fi, Board Games, Web Development; my interests and job skills span a lot of categories. Recently however I had a new one to add: Tattoo Convention. The Motor City Tattoo Expo is an annual gathering of some of the best tattoo artists around the world. It’s been going since 1996, and what really interested me was that it’s curated by the organizers. Artists are invited, rather than just an open market free-for-all. I’ve wanted a tattoo since I was about 14.…

Melting Around the World

January 15, 2016
i-ZmbxfLh-800x800

Welcome to Wednesday! Today we are hitting Epcot. Two park closures in a row meant I slept in. So we just had time to hoof it to the boat and ride over to the other side of the lake for our lunch ADR. The beautiful blue skies leaving the Village. Here is the full day’s video – but keep reading for the pictures and comments. Walking into Epcot. The Food and Wine Festival was going on. It wasn’t exceptionally crowded as far as we could tell though, while we were here. A quick shot of us. Unintentionally coordinated in blues…

ShutoCon 2015 – after con report

April 18, 2015
ShutoCon 2015

Normally we go to ShutoCon as artists – selling our usual array of buttons. This year however due to conflicting schedules I missed out on alley registration and decided to just buy a normal badge. It’s been YEARS since we’ve hit a convention as regular run-of-the-mill attendees. I’m always either working a table or official press. So it was very weird and kind of lost-feeling to not have a “purpose” each day. I had a work commitment in the morning so couldn’t roll in until the afternoon. Lunch per usual was at El Azteco. It may not be the most…

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

February 19, 2015
pumpkin main street

My most favoritest reason for being here finally arrives! Magic Kingdom in FULL HALLOWEEN GLORY. Despite a strongly afflicting phobia of certain things with 8 legs (to the point where not only is the technical term for them absolutely too much, but even the common s****r term is generally avoided) Halloween continues to be my #1 holiday. It is undeniably difficult to avoid the thing which I hate most at that time of year but thankfully it’s on the spookier end of things enough that Disney chooses not to use it in decorations so I am SAFE! Seriously – I…

Menorah Lighting 2014 – Campus Martius

December 26, 2014
Menorah_Lighting_2014-09-800x800

This is the 4th year that Menorah in the D has taken place – another one of those events that are hard to ignore when they’re going on just feet from your workplace. On Tuesday, December 16th, which is the first night of Chanukah, all were welcome to come down and celebrate the lighting ceremony. Snacks and hot cider were provided, as well as live entertainment, all organized by the Shul-Chabad Lubavitch in West Bloomfield. The menorah itself stands 26 feet tall, one of the largest such community menorahs in the country. It was designed and built by the artists…

Christmas Tree Lighting 2014 – Campus Martius

December 19, 2014
Santa schedule

Since I can see Campus Martius from my building, it’s kind of silly to not attend most of the events going on in the evenings here. One of the bigger crowd draws being the annual Christmas Tree lighting. On my way out, I passed through the main lobby where Santa has a little section set up to do photos and meets for kids (of all ages). In between children I grabbed a shot of him (though he sweetly called out I was welcome to come on up). There’s no charge, but photos are on your own. They don’t have anyone…

Toy Wars Stunt Spectacular of Terror

December 13, 2014
Toy Wars Stunt Spectacular of Terror

Thursday! We managed to get up a bit earlier than the day before, but still didn’t actually get to the park until noon. Grabbed “breakfast” at the little shop in the lobby. First we finally got down to check out the pool. No pictures of the pool area as I don’t have a waterproof case. These guys crack me up. Hidden Mickey! Love the other details – like the well-worn English to Spanish dictionary. The hat is no more here – glad for the shots I got of it. Off to the Pixar area… To use a FP for Toy…
