My Life At ACen – a Look Back

There’s a thing on social media called Throwback Thursday. It’s a way to have a post that isn’t involved and detailed by just showing something from the past, usually a photo. Of course much like The Bloggess, I’m not really good at following directions so this post will be pretty detailed. My first Anime Central was way back in 2003. The specifics are fuzzy on how we found out about it but I do know that we ended up driving to Illinois with a friend of a friend (hi Nicole) and stayed at her friend’s place (hi Shannon and Rich) who I’m happy to say are now our friends. We…

    Brief Update

Hey guys – just a quick update to let you know I’m alive. I’ve been dealing with a bout of pneumonia and some heavy workloads both at work and for family (hello mom’s lovely new kitchen floor) which has eaten up my time and/or energy. Never fear though, as I have a TON of stuff in the pipeline for you wonderful readers and will have them resuming a somewhat normal schedule soon. Upcoming: Detroit Fanfare is THIS WEEKEND! Once again I will be there all 3 days covering the awesomeness. In case you missed it last year – check out my post here. Food review of One Eyed Betty’s Entertainment…

    Photowalk – Ann Arbor, MI

I am a huge fan of Google Plus. There are so many photographers on there that I am inspired by on a daily basis. I believe it’s due to the great layout/space for photographs, that it is very easy to “follow” someone, and to meet and engage in conversation with so many new people. It is there that I came across the G+ Anniversary Photowalk, and by extension, a Michigan photography group that was participating. I’m so thrilled that I did come across the post because it’s been far too long (as you can see by the lack of updates here) since I’ve gotten out and done some serious shooting.…

    In response to SOPA

Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy “offline” mode for this site – and as such this post will have to stand in place for a complete blackout of DisjointedImages. Please take a moment to read more about it HERE and HERE and finally HERE For everyone who has enjoyed my postings – think about all the ways that someone could claim infringement (didn’t like the review I gave of a restaurant that had pictures of the food) and have me completely shut down with no warning, discussion, or recourse. It’s a terrible thought, and my site is one that I don’t expect goes on many radars. Now think of much splashier…

    Maker Faire Report

This past weekend Detroit hosted the second annual Maker Faire at The Henry Ford. Maker Faire started in 2006 in San Mateo, CA and quickly word spread about how fun and amazing it was and soon other areas organized local Maker Faire events. It is a weekend long celebration of everything fantastic about learning and teaching, science and engineering, arts and crafts, and everything in between. It gives a place for every DIY’er and home-brew hacker to come together and show off what they love – creating.

Hot Air Jubilee – Jackson, MI

The Hot Air Jubilee is an annual event that takes place in Jackson, MI. Over the three day event they have daily balloon launches, an arts and craft fair, a children’s carnival with small rides, inflatables and games, and various other entertainment. The balloon launches happen (weather permitting) twice each day – once early morning and again in the early evening. According to their website: In 1983 a group of Hot Air Balloon enthusiast who lived in and around Jackson came up with the dream of a family friendly event for the Jackson Community. The Hot Air Jubilee was born. Since then the Jubilee has grown to an event that…

Thoughts on Artist’s Alley Pt. 1

Since I’ve been doing AA’s for, goodness, 7+ years now, I thought I’d share a few observations – These are some of the things that I, as an artist and “business person”, have … wait. I need to cover something first. I frequently hear that if you’re in AA you shouldn’t be running a business because that’s what the Dealer’s Room is for. This is a lame argument from people who aren’t getting enough traffic/revenue/positive feedback at their table. That’s my opinion. Deal. Artist’s Alley exists to PROMOTE and ELEVATE the artist and their work. Presumably, most artists would eventually like to get somewhere with that – be it independently…

    Changes

Well, as I’m sure you’ve seen the blog got quite the overhaul today! Part of it is an effort to clean up (if I was feeling overwhelmed, it’s a problem) and part to bring it closer to the feeling of our other sites. First – the launch of my official photography site is coming soon. It’s live at: http://photos.disjointedimages.com but right now there’s not much to see in the galleries. Expect more and a full announcement later on that. Second – Chris (the brains behind DisjointedCode) will be moving to his own blog soon. He has lots of cool stuff and ideas to share and wanted his own space so…

Youmacon recap / End of year ramblings

Phew – quite the time gap between posts. To quickly fill you in: we decided very last minute to throw together a WEDDING with no budget, little time, and a big dream. That pretty much ate up any spare time we had. It was however a lovely wedding, and everything went perfectly. Not long after we came back from our honeymoon, it was time to get everything together for Youmacon. It was a great weekend, lots of our fan/customers coming by to see the new designs, and a few new people too. I got to draw a squirrel, a goat with a monocle, a wolf, and will forever be haunted…

    On Gaming and Games

I recently heard about a new social site specifically geared to gamers: http://raptr.com/ After poking around and signing up, I found I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a very well made site, and shock of shocks, it works as advertised! You can find me at: http://raptr.com/disjointedimages One of the downsides to developing a game, is that actually getting to play any is difficult. I’ve got quite a few recent and/or soon to be released games that I’d love to sit down with. Hopefully you’ll see my status update as I get that chance, along with further reviews here. Here’s my short lineup: Tales of Monkey Island – C’mon! A new Monkey…
