Detroit Grand Prix
The Chevrolet Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix (as it is officially called) was held May 31-June 2, 2013. It featured cars from the IZOD IndyCar Series, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the Pirelli World Challenge Championship Series. The track is 2.3 miles long and is actually temporary. It takes months to set up the full track area including paddock, bleachers, vendor area, and more. Thanks to a random giveaway at work, Chris scored 2 tickets for Saturday along with parking, shuttle, and paddock access.
Detroit Derby Girls All Stars vs. Steel Hurtin’
While out for an event last year, I chatted up someone in line in front of me who had a fancy camera like mine and we traded business cards. After following them for a bit and seeing a slew of Roller Derby photos I was reminded how much I wanted to see (and hopefully shoot) this sport myself. So I sent my info over and after some discussion and release forms I was in! The bout was held at the Masonic Temple and turned out to be a sold out game. Since I decided to attend the Auto Show this year, I figured I should give Autorama a shot as well. It’s been running for over 60 years and features a wide range of custom cars – from Hot Rods to tricked out motorcycles to replica movie vehicles like the Batmobile. We parked in our usual spot downtown and stopped by Greektown to grab some cheap burgers and fries from Five Guys. They were pretty packed (lot of folks heading to the show) and while we waited I grabbed a handful of peanuts.

It’s been some years since I’ve attended the Auto Show. For various reasons I just wasn’t finding it worthwhile to visit. Since Chris started working in Detroit however, we find ourselves much more interested in visiting the city and taking in the sights.
