    War of 1812 Bicentennial / Navy Week in Detroit, MI

    In remembrance of the War of 1812, and as a way of bringing some of what the Navy and Coast Guard does to the people, several ships were docked in Detroit with many offering tours, as well as public entertainment. There was the 453-foot-long frigate USS De Wert, the coastal patrol boat USS Hurricane, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Katmai Bay, and the tall ship US Brig Niagara. The Niagara is a reconstruction of the ship that played a prominent role in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
